Mobile EasyCard at Taipei, Taiwan

Arming with the technical know-how and deployment experience for Near Field Communication (NFC) and Trusted Services Management (TSM), RFCyber is invited as technical advisor for the Easy-Mo project to turn the Nokia NFC 6131i as a micro-payment device and interactive advertisement tool.

The Easy-Mo project (NFC trial) was a joint effort by the Taipei Smart Card Company (TSCC) and Chung-Hwa Telecomm (CHT) in May 2007 to offer EasyCard holders in the Taipei metropolitan area with new kind of mobile experiences using Nokia NFC 6131i cell phones. The core service of the Easy-Mo project is the mobile EasyCard on Nokia 6131i for paying transit fare. The mobile phone holders can simply use their phones as regular transportation cards by touching the entrance and exit gates when taking transit. Besides this core feature, other new services are offered to these cell phones. The services include balance enquiry and checking of the last six transaction records of the mobile cards, OTA top-up of the mobile cards against the linked CHT accounts, paying for parking meter at roadside and accessing marketing information in smart posters.

Mobile EasyCard users can do top-up, balance enquiry, history at anytime and anyplace. This resolves the current inconvenience of having to go to the designated locations for performing these functions. With the RFID enabled parking meters, car drivers need only to read RFID tags at respective parking meters to do payment via their CHT accounts. In addition, if parking time needs to be extended, the drivers can simply pay for additional time through OTA without having to go back to the meter. With smart poster service, the mobile phone users can retrieve advertisement and promotional information on the smart posters.
